Kevin Prue
Long time beach supporter and former owner Kevin Prue needs your help. Below is a letter from Kevin's family
Dear Friends ~
We hope this note finds each of you weathering these unsettling times in the healthiest way possible, taking care to focus on those things that matter most to you. We pray that life is treating you kindly.
For Kevin, myself and our children, there is an added burden right now that we are struggling to face. As you are likely aware by now, Kevin has been diagnosed with End Stage Liver Disease and unfortunately, the situation is as ominous as it sounds. His physicians at The Yale Transplant Center have advised us that he is in need of a life-saving Liver Transplant from a matching donor and he was officially listed on the National Registry in March. He has endeavored all his life to support, protect, and provide for his family and to be self-sufficient. He, and we, have so much to be proud of and thankful for! In spite of his declining health, he has always made sure to "be there" with generous support for family, friends and co-workers. What he is currently facing, however, is not something he can fix himself. His quick wit may be able to break the ice and lighten the mood, but it can't heal his failing liver.
There are two options for a Liver Transplant:
DECEASED (whole organ) DONATION - The list is very long, and the wait for an organ is even longer. Those whose health is most dire are prioritized and almost 1 in 5 patients die on the Liver transplant waiting list before a viable matching organ becomes available.
**Registering as an Organ Donor makes clear one's desire to save a life once they pass and serves as a symbol of hope to every patient awaiting a lifesaving transplant.
LIVING (partial organ) DONATION - A portion of a liver from a compatible donor can be transplanted and will REGENERATE to full size in both donor and recipient within 6-8 weeks.
**A Registered Organ Donor is not automatically considered as a candidate for LIVING Organ Donation - an interested donor must come forward to be evaluated as a match either for a specific recipient or as an altruistic donor for a stranger.
Once past the initial phone screening, every living donor candidate undergoes a comprehensive medical screening to assess their health and ensure that donation is safe for them to pursue. Living donors are cared for by a multidisciplinary team that is separate from the providers assigned to the recipient. Potential living donors' health history and evaluation testing are protected information and potential donors can withdraw from consideration confidentially at any point. Living donation provides an invaluable benefit to the recipient in that the transplant is done in a timely manner before their liver and overall health deteriorates further. Time is of the essence, as this disease is really beginning to take its toll on Kevin. His doctors have told us a Living Organ Transplant is his best chance of survival.
We are way out of our comfort zone, but we need to find Kevin a living donor and we are reaching out to ask for your help. If you, or someone you know, is interested in learning more about Organ Donation and/or Living Donation on Kevin's behalf, please contact the Yale-New Haven Transplantation Center @ 866-925-3897 or visit www.YNHH.org/OrganDonation The Center for Living Organ Donation will provide information, guidance, resources and support without obligation to anyone interested in finding out how they can help.

You can help us find his perfect match by getting tested and/or sharing this information freely, asking those in your own network of family and friends to do so as well. As his journey progresses, we will post relevant information, helpful resources and links as well as updates via Kevin's Journey to Liver Transplant Page on Facebook.
